A collaborative community venture organised and operated by Cranleigh Climate Action and Cranleigh Library (part of Surrey library service) with the support of Elmbridge Retirement Village.

Fed up with the clutter of things you hardly ever use? Our Library of Things aims to provide access to a wide range of items, tools and resources to make your life easier.
As our catalogue develops, you will find gardening equipment, DIY tools and kitchen equipment, with more items added regularly.
Don’t buy, borrow!
How much does it cost? We do not charge, but please give us a donation through our JustGiving page. We rely on donations to get new items, repairs and expenses:
All our items are carefully sourced; some generously donated by local partner firms, organisations or local people. We have a Wish List of things we would particularly like to get and would love for you to donate. Get in touch if you have something to donate.
By joining the Library of Things you can help Cranleigh become a more sustainable village and foster a true sense of shared community.

Can someone explain who tests the electrical equipment when returned and given out to the next hirer. Also are they qualified. Can we get a copy of the council RAMS for this. And how much public liability do you have for the items if go wrong.

All the electrical equipment being offered for loan has been PAT tested, and will be tested at least annually. Until now we have had to rely on PAT testers in other organisations (e.g. Godalming Repair Café) but we now have our own trained and qualified PAT tester. Cranleigh Lions kindly gave us the money for the training.
After each loan, any electrical equipment is visually inspected (for damaged cords for instance), plugged in and switched on (where appropriate) to check that it is still in good order.
Before people borrow items they have to ‘sign’ to say they are competent to use the equipment they are borrowing. We have instructions available for all items and we have specialist Library of Things insurance to cover us in case of things going wrong.
